Integrating generative AI in higher education
The emergence of text-generating AI systems has a significant impact on research and teaching at universities. In this workshop, we will exchange ideas and experiences of working with generative AI in higher education. We will check if our commonly used tasks are AI-proof and how we need to adjust them in order to foster necessary competencies of our students. We will discuss some basic prompting techniques in order to gain a better understanding of how the technology might be used by the students and by ourselves. Since generative AI also influences assessment, we will evaluate various forms of AI documentation and potential adjustments to our assessment designs. Lastly, we will reflect on ethical implications and their place in our teaching.
- Introduction to the topic of artificial intelligence in higher education and some prompting techniques
- Competencies in the age of generative AI
- Assessment and generative AI
- Ethical aspects of generative AI and their implications for teaching design
After attending the workshop, participants will be able to, ...
- integrate their knowledge of fundamentals of AI into their teaching design decisions.
- develop evaluation criteria in line with changed competency requirements.
- reflect on the ethics of generative AI and its implications on teaching.
In this in‑person gathering you will meet fellow teachers, share experiences, and explore generative AI in higher education together. This workshop is open to everyone — no prior expertise required[UR1] [SH2] . However, if you’d feel more at ease discussing ideas in German, please attend our various workshops in German. Just check the HDM program.
